Theme: “Say Yes To Adventure!”

I wasn’t actually intending on buying the July edition of Birchbox, but as I forgot to cancel my subscription last month, I ended up with it anyway. However, even though this isn’t the best box I’ve received from them, I like all of the products I was sent and I probably would have bought a few of them second-hand on eBay anyway!

Even though the outer design is a pretty pastel watercolour print, I’m a tiny bit disappointed with the box itself because it isn’t one of the gorgeous Birchbox drawers I’ve come to know and love. Instead it’s just a simple cardboard box with a lid, which is fine, but arguably less useful.

  1. Manna Kadar Long-Wear Powder – (Shade “Paradise”)

The box this month contains 2 full sized makeup products, which makes a nice change from the June edition because I wasn’t completely satisfied with so many sample-sized items. The first full-sizer is a Manna Kadar blush which was available to Birchbox customers in two colours – “Paradise” or “Trifecta”. I was sent “Paradise” which is the darker of the two shades. I probably wouldn’t have chosen this particular colour because it seems to be slightly too dark to use on my cheeks – but as this can be utilised as an eyeshadow as well, I think I’ll manage to get at least some use out of this.

2. What’s In It For Me..? Shower Scrub

I love the idea of this scrub! It uses walnut shell instead of microbeads, so it exfoliates and nourishes the skin without damaging the environment – wonderful! However, this scrub is full of almond oil (and walnut of course), and as a nut-allergy sufferer I’m slightly wary about using this on my face or anywhere near my lips, so sadly this will have to be another product gifted to my Mother.

3. Klorane Floral Water Makeup Remover

When I opened the Birchbox for the first time, the smell of this hit me straight away. It has a subtle, natural scent but is alcohol and fragrance-free, so it is suitable for use on even the most sensitive of skin. The bottle is only a 25ml sample, but this makes it the perfect size to pack in my travel makeup bag when I leave for my holiday on Tuesday! I was originally going to fly with my Garnier micellar water, but I will now be taking this instead because it will take up much less room – and I also want to give this new micellar water a try.

4. Balance Me Congested Skin Serum

This is where the Birchbox beauty profiles really prove their usefulness! The “acne” box is ticked permanently on my profile due to my constant breakouts, so I absolutely love it when I receive products like this – especially when they’re 99% natural, because I’m not keen on slathering too many chemicals on my skin… This serum can be used on breakouts and single blemishes to “balance skin” and act as a targeted spot treatment. Again, this is a sample size at only 7ml, but I’ll be popping this into my makeup bag just in case it is needed for emergency skin days in Spain – (I’m hoping that the Sun will help to clear my skin but I can never have enough skincare products in my bag!)

5. Eyeko Fat Eye Stick – (Shade “Satin”)

This is the second full-size beauty product included in the July Birchbox. Apparently this eyeshadow delivers minimal smudging and creasing – instead supplying “intense, glossy colour”. I really like the “twist for more product” design of the stick, and the shimmery taupe shade is right up my street! The chubby crayon is perfect for easy application, and I’m hoping that the rounded tip will allow me to underline my lower lashes with colour.

Overall, July’s Birchbox isn’t too bad. I’m pretty sure I will find use for 4 out of the 5 products – and that is only because I’m allergic to the fifth! The smaller products are great for holidays and travelling – so I can’t complain too much about the travel sizes – plus I do love receiving more than one full sized beauty product! – (because that’s the best part, right?)

Have you received this month’s Birchbox? What do you think?
